Where the boat goes
These are the islands the safari sails to. Every morning the crew checks the forecast and picks the spot. Tawila only by prior arrangement (paid entry), Gubal when guests want to dive. Tap an island to see what it is like.
-
Tawila Island 37 km from Hurghada
- The most popular spot of the safari: a huge turquoise lagoon for freeride and freestyle.
- Steady wind of 15-25 knots, shallow water and a sandy bottom.
- The organiser lists it for beginners and advanced riders.
- Access only by prior arrangement, entry is paid.
-
Geisum Island 48 km from Hurghada
- One of the least crowded spots, with long beaches.
- Constant wind, shallow and deeper water, downwinders to the neighbouring islands.
- For freeride and wave riders. Dolphins can be seen on the way.
-
Abu Minqar Island 8 km from Hurghada
- A smaller island with a lagoon, used for practising tricks; the organiser lists it for beginners and freestyle riders.
- Shallow calm water and sand. Bays to rest in.
-
Ashrafi Islands 60 km from Hurghada
- The most remote spot of the trip: shallow water and waves, downwind trips.
- Steady wind, mixed conditions. For advanced freeriders. Untouched nature.
-
Gubal Island 43 km from Hurghada
- Snorkelling and diving; the boat goes here only when guests want to dive.
- Stronger wind, deeper water, riding next to coral reefs. Close to the SS Thistlegorm wreck.
Distances in a straight line from Hurghada, calculated from OpenStreetMap and Wikidata coordinates. Island descriptions follow the organiser, Paradise Kitesurf Red Sea, who calls Abu Minqar "Abu Mungar".
The safari at your level

- IKO certification needs at least 8 hours with an instructor and is not included.
I ride on my own
- Two sessions a day from day 2 to day 6, evening video coaching.
- Bring your own gear or rent it: complete kite gear €300 / 6 days, twin tip €60 / 6 days.

- Private lessons: €65 / hour. Gear storage, compressor and pumps on board are included.
I ride at an advanced level
- Freeride, freestyle and waves, with very few other kiters around.

The boat
The latest trips sailed on M/Y Hermes (formerly M/Y New Francesca): 36 m long, 7.5 m wide, a wooden yacht with 3 decks, 10 deluxe cabins and 2 suites, a sun deck, a jacuzzi and a bar. The boat is chartered, so it is confirmed together with the dates.

From people who sailed
I always thought a kite safari was only for pros, but because you kite on spots with shallow water, there's something for everyone.
The boat was very nice and big, 3 storeys with a jacuzzi and a terrace and deck chairs... The cooking was really good!... even vegetarians would find something to their liking.
