How the calculator works
- It uses a rule of thumb known among kiters: kite size (m²) = 2.2 × weight (kg) / wind (knots), for a twin tip.
- A big light-wind twin tip uses 1.9 instead of 2.2. A surfboard gets 1 m² less, a hydrofoil 2 m² less than a twin tip. Beginners get a kite 10% smaller (not on a hydrofoil). Independent and advanced riders get the same result.
- The result is rounded to a common kite size between 5 and 18 m².
- It is a starting point, not a rule. Gusty wind, the kite model and your style change the answer. When in doubt, ask at the spot.
