Forecast and webcams

Before you go

Forecasts often disagree. When Windguru, ALADIN and Windy agree, it is worth going.

Tips for this spot

  • Offshore wind carries you away from land. Do not ride it without a rescue boat.
  • When a storm is coming, get out of the water and land the kite at once. Gusts before a storm are violent and a kite overhead is the highest point around.
  • New spot: ask locals about shallows, currents and where people launch.

What you need to know

Who it suits
Intermediate; riding away from shore requires good upwind skills.
Watch out NW
The wind is always gusty in NW.

Watch out for

  • The Lynx ferry passes several times a day, creating a large shorebreak wave that can wash kites and gear on the beach into the water.community map
  • Onshore wind and a steeply shelving bottom (except at low tide) make getting off the beach difficult without solid upwind skills.community map
  • Narrow beach, busy park, and power lines west of the jet ski markers.community map

Where to launch

  • Rigging on the beach in front of the parking lot and east of the garages. Launch and land anywhere east of the garages and jet ski markers.community map

Parking

  • Parking lot at the end of Hector Street.community map
  • Car park about 50 m from the spot.capacity: 10 · OpenStreetMap

Rules and respect

  • No jumping or high-speed transitions within 50 m of shore; approach the beach slowly and under control.community map
  • Do not rig on the beach in front of the restrooms, playground, or grass area (Churchill Park).community map
  • Do not launch or land in front of the playground, park, or west of the jet ski markers.community map

Conditions

  • Wind always has some onshore component, and except at low tide the beach slopes quite steeply. Water is mostly chop without real swell, forming ramps for jumps.community map
