Forecast and webcams

Before you go

Forecasts often disagree. When Windguru, ALADIN and Windy agree, it is worth going.

Tips for this spot

  • Offshore wind carries you away from land. Do not ride it without a rescue boat.
  • When a storm is coming, get out of the water and land the kite at once. Gusts before a storm are violent and a kite overhead is the highest point around.
  • New spot: ask locals about shallows, currents and where people launch.

What you need to know

Watch out for

  • Steady mild north-flowing current regardless of the tide.community map

Where to launch

  • The beach has sand at the top, then smooth river stones, and sand at low tide; in front of the beach is a large grassy area suitable when dry.community map

Parking

  • Car park “Anderson Point Park” at the spot, free.OpenStreetMap
  • Public park parking at the end of Millahanna Rd.community map

Getting there

  • From Banner Rd, turn onto Millahanna Rd (just north of Lala Cove Ln and Olalla Treatment Center, marked by a small brown park sign; looks like a gravel driveway) to the parking lot, then an 8-10 minute walk to the beach.community map

Conditions

  • Side-onshore wind. In a N wind, the wind channels and is very steady, but the current creates chop and waves (1-2 ft swell).community map

Riders' tips

  • When approaching from the north on Banner Rd, do not go down the winding hill toward the water; the turn-off is before it.community map
In riders' own words
  • „On a Northerly or Southerly this sandy beach works.“
  • „On a good southsound Northerly the wind seems to funnel right down the channel and is very steady.“
  • „This beach has sand at the top and then has smooth river rock, then sandy at low tide. Also, before the beach there is a large grassy area that is good when dry.“
  • „once you turn onto Millahanna Rd, follow to parking lot.“
  • „OpenStreetMap way/441851356“
  • „The road you turn off of Banner is Millahanna Rd. ... It looks like a rocky dirt driveway, but you are in the right place. The walk is about 8-10 minutes to the beach“
  • „a light current is always going to the North no matter what the tide is doing.“
  • „Straight side shore on shore wind ... On a good southsound Northerly the wind seems to funnel right down the channel and is very steady. Also, on a good Northerly you get some good chop/swell“
  • „If you are coming from the North on Banner and you've started heading down the curvy part of Banner towards the water, you've gone too far.“

Wind by month

When it blows

Average wind speed 10 m above ground from NASA POWER (MERRA-2, 2001–2025). The model works on a grid of roughly 50 km; on hills and by the water the wind is often stronger and gustier.
