Forecast and webcams

Before you go

Forecasts often disagree. When Windguru, ALADIN and Windy agree, it is worth going.

Tips for this spot

  • Offshore wind carries you away from land. Do not ride it without a rescue boat.
  • When a storm is coming, get out of the water and land the kite at once. Gusts before a storm are violent and a kite overhead is the highest point around.
  • New spot: ask locals about shallows, currents and where people launch.

What you need to know

Who it suits
Unsuitable for beginners at higher tide due to a tight launch.
Watch out
Occasional gusty and holey wind days.

Watch out for

  • Rocks downwind of the launch (risk of impact if the launch goes wrong) and sharp rocks and shells on the beach.community map
  • Incoming tide makes staying upwind difficult in light wind; nudists are often on the leeward side of the point.community map
  • In late summer, eel grass is everywhere, catching lines and making kite relaunch difficult.community map

Where to launch

  • At higher tide (around 7-8 ft), the launch area is tight and launching is very difficult.community map

Parking

  • Risk of car break-ins (unlike Hunter Beach).unguarded · community map
  • Car park about 450 m from the spot.OpenStreetMap

Getting there

  • Access via a very steep path down the cliff.community map

Conditions

  • Works on N high-pressure flow and thermal wind with a Venturi effect (+5-10 knots (3–5 m/s)), wind is usually steady, warm water at low tide in summer.community map
  • Wind usually fills in between 12:00 and 13:00 and blows until around 16:00.community map

Riders' tips

  • Wake fins are a must in late summer due to seagrass; a better alternative is Hunter Beach (club permit required, grass rigging area, no reef).community map
  • Check nwwind.net (NW), Entrance Is and Vancouver W-NW in the teens in the morning, Skagit and Bellingham around 10 knots (5 m/s) before noon.community map
