Tips for this spot
- Offshore wind carries you away from land. Do not ride it without a rescue boat.
- When a storm is coming, get out of the water and land the kite at once. Gusts before a storm are violent and a kite overhead is the highest point around.
- New spot: ask locals about shallows, currents and where people launch.

What you need to know
Watch out for
- A band of large rocks between the flats and the sand can snag lines when launching (tide above 6-7 ft).community map
- At tides of 8 ft or higher, the water reaches almost to the trees.community map
Where to launch
- Below 4 ft tide, launch from the flats (fine sand/mud). Above 6-7 ft, from the sand spit (assisted launch recommended due to rocks). Above 8 ft, water launch or tether launch.community map
Parking
- Roadside parking before the train trestle.community map
- Car park about 600 m from the spot, free.OpenStreetMap
Getting there
- A few hundred yards from the parking lot along the public coastal path to the beach. Quite a long walk to the water at low tide.community map
Conditions
- No boat traffic, mostly standing depth everywhere. At low tide, 2+ miles of flat water (slick) and warm water in summer.community map
- Nice soft wind waves at high tide and strong wind.community map
- Challenging conditions at high tide.community map
Riders' tips
- At extreme low tide, ride in the narrow Nooksack River channel or tack upwind to deeper water; to avoid the long walk, consider Squalicum Beach or Post Point.community map
