Forecast and webcams

Before you go

Forecasts often disagree. When Windguru, ALADIN and Windy agree, it is worth going.

Tips for this spot

  • Offshore wind carries you away from land. Do not ride it without a rescue boat.
  • When a storm is coming, get out of the water and land the kite at once. Gusts before a storm are violent and a kite overhead is the highest point around.
  • New spot: ask locals about shallows, currents and where people launch.

What you need to know

Who it suits
Beginners (at 8 ft tide or lower).
Watch out W
W wind in the forecast shuts the spot down very quickly.

Watch out for

  • Driftwood in the water during extreme tidal exchanges; lots of buoys in the water; wind can quickly pick up or shut off.community map
  • At high tide there is no beach, only logs, and you cannot touch bottom before your kite is in someone's backyard.community map
  • The grassy area is not suitable for launching/landing due to onshore wind and many obstacles (restrooms, cliff).community map
  • Off-leash dog area starts at the old windsock 100 m north of the toilets.community map
  • Near the bluff, the wind is very unpredictable and can swirl.community map

Where to launch

  • Launch on the sand at low tide (8 ft tide or lower). At high tide there is no beach, only logs and no safe zone.community map

Parking

  • Free parking in the lot, do not block access.price: free · capacity: approximately 15 vehicles · community map
  • Car park about 200 m from the spot, free.unguarded · OpenStreetMap

Rules and respect

  • Local kiters ask never to launch or land on the grass area near the toilets.community map
  • Do not block the drive-through lane in the parking lot.community map

Conditions

  • Tide-dependent (ideal is 8 ft or less). Waist-deep water most of the time, exposed sandflats at extreme low tide. Nice waves when strong outgoing tide opposes the wind.community map
  • Wind in the bay is onshore to sideshore and tends to be very steady; best before and after southerly storms (SE 15-25 kt (8–13 m/s) and up).community map

Riders' tips

  • Check the SE forecast for Puget Sound, Northern Islands, and Admiralty Inlet, plus the Point No Point, Marrowstone, and Edmonds-Kingston ferry sensors.community map

Facilities

  • Two park toilets and outdoor freshwater showers (operating outside winter months).community map
In riders' own words
  • „Best wind direction: SE, S“
  • „Beware of any W in the forecast as it will shut down Double Bluff very quickly.“
  • „Skill level: Beginner (8ft or lower tide)“
  • „An 8 ft or below water level is ideal and gives enough sand to rig and launch safely on the beach. When the tide is high there is no beach, only logs“
  • „There is free parking in the lot for approximately 15 vehicles. Please do not block the drive-through.“
  • „OpenStreetMap way/198410668“
  • „If you are kiting on a high tide, keep in mind that you will not be able to stand up before your kite is in someone’s front yard.“
  • „Beware of getting your kite too close to the bluff as the wind can be very unpredictable and can swirl.“
  • „On extreme tidal exchanges beware of wood debris in the water. The wind speed can both increase and shut off very quickly... There are a lot of buoys.“
  • „not an ideal launch/land zone as the wind is onshore with many obstacles (including the bathrooms and bluff).“
  • „It is a well-known off leash dog park... The off-leash zone starts at the old windsock located 100 meters north of the restrooms.“
  • „Local kiters have asked that we not launch/land from the grass area near the restrooms at any time.“
  • „Please do not block the drive-through.“
  • „When there is a strong outgoing tide, be ready for some nice peeling waves as the wind opposes the current and the water is shallow.“

When it blows

Average wind speed 10 m above ground from NASA POWER (MERRA-2, 2001–2025). The model works on a grid of roughly 50 km; on hills and by the water the wind is often stronger and gustier.
