Forecast and webcams

Before you go

Forecasts often disagree. When Windguru, ALADIN and Windy agree, it is worth going.

Tips for this spot

  • Offshore wind carries you away from land. Do not ride it without a rescue boat.
  • When a storm is coming, get out of the water and land the kite at once. Gusts before a storm are violent and a kite overhead is the highest point around.
  • New spot: ask locals about shallows, currents and where people launch.

What you need to know

Who it suits
Very advanced spot, requires solid self-launch and light-wind riding skills.

Watch out for

  • Lots of trees and people downwind of the launch. If you end up downwind, there is no way back (except trespassing on expensive private property).community map

Where to launch

  • Very tricky launch with lots of trees and people downwind. On return, you have to self-land and pack down in the water.community map

Parking

  • Car park “North Lot” about 450 m from the spot, free.OpenStreetMap

Rules and respect

  • Private property downwind of the launch, walking back through there means trespassing.community map

Conditions

  • Shallow water 100 ft from shore, good for unhooked riding. Works on a strong NW with a big kite.community map

Riders' tips

  • The 520 sensor needs to read at least 18 to ride (at 12 N the kite stays up, maybe enough for a race board). Head out on starboard tack right after launch for better wind.community map
In riders' own words
  • „Works on a strong NW with a big kite. You can fly your kite when 520 reads 12 N, so maybe a race board would work.“
  • „Very advanced launch site with lots of trees and people downwind. Don't ride here unless you are extremely confident in you self-launching and light wind skills.“
  • „Very advanced launch site with lots of trees and people downwind. Must self-land and wrap up in water to come in.“

  • „Very advanced launch site with lots of trees and people downwind. If you end up downwind of the launch here there's no return“
  • „If you end up downwind of the launch here there's no return (except for trespassing on a multi-million dollar property).“
  • „Shallow water for 100 ft out = good for un-hooked.“
  • „520 must read 18 or higher for it to be rideable. Immediately after launch ride starboard to get better winds.“

Wind by month

When it blows

Average wind speed 10 m above ground from NASA POWER (MERRA-2, 2001–2025). The model works on a grid of roughly 50 km; on hills and by the water the wind is often stronger and gustier.
